Site & Soils
Pisa Range Estate vineyard is located at Pisa, approximately 10km north of Cromwell, Central Otago, New Zealand.

The Pisa district has one of the warmer microclimates of the Cromwell Basin consistently combining hot days cool nights and long autumns – perfect conditions for the production of fine pinot noir.

This area which sits on the 45th parallel is bordered by Lake Dunstan on one side and the rugged Pisa Range on the other. It is proving to be a prime pinot noir growing site of the Cromwell Basin. The combination of high growing degree days and Waenga silty loamy soils produces Trophy winning wines for Pisa Range Estate.

Pinot noir is the dominant grape variety with several clones planted – including new Burgundy clones. Viticulture practices strive for quality to ensure the very best fruit is brought into the winery. These include close vine spacing, careful clonal selection, low crop yields (around 5 tonne per hectare) and hand-harvesting. There is a commitment to bio-dynamic principles and Pisa Range Estate is an Accredited Member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.
